Generating a Server ID File

To install licenses on a machine, you must create a Server ID File that contains the hardware information for that computer. The Server ID File contains information such as the MAC address, hard drive serial number, and other data unique to the machine for which it is generated. This information is used to tie the license to that machine, so that the license cannot be moved to another machine once generated.

Generating Server ID Files on Linux

  1. Navigate to the License Server directory: cd /opt/lumenvox/licenseserver_X.Y/bin where X.Y is the version number of your License Server.

  2. Run the getlvsystem_info utility by typing ./getlvsystem_info

  3. After the program executes, a file called Info.bts should be created in your license server installation directory. Alternatively, you may specify the directory where Info.bts should be created by passing it as a command line argument. For example, ./getlvsystem_info path/to/the/directory

  4. If you do not have a Web browser installed on the same machine as the License Server, use a tool such as scp to move the Info.bts file to a computer with a Web browser and an Internet connection.

  5. Proceed to Uploading and Downloading License Files.

Generating Server ID Files on Windows

  1. Launch the License Administrator by choosing Start > Programs > LumenVox > Product > License Administrator.

  2. Type in the License Server's IP address. If the License Server is running on the machine you are using, the local machine's IP address is 127.0.0.1.

  3. Click "Connect." The server status should change to "Connected."

  4. Click "Create Server ID File."

  5. The file, called Info.bts, will be saved in the License Server installation directory, by default at C:\Program Files\Lumenvox\License Server\

  6. Proceed to Uploading and Downloading License Files.
