Speech Driven Information System Call Engine

The Speech Assistant is based on the Speech Platform Call Engine which acts as the intermediary between the Dialogic hardware and the Speech Assistant applications. The TeleVantage IVR Plug-in transfers control of each call to the Call Engine for processing by the Assistant. The Call Engine runs as a service and is guarded by a special "Watchdog" service that will restart the Call Engine should a failure occur at any time.

Since the Call Engine runs as a service, its activity is not directly visible to the system administrator. The Speech Platform Monitor is a remote program that communicates with the Call Engine and displays the results in real-time. The Monitor can be run from any station on the network and it must be configured with the machine name or the IP address of the Call Engine allowing administrators to view activity from their desk or any other remote location. Once started, the Monitor displays an icon in the taskbar which is used to access its functions.

If the Call Engine is not currently active, the Monitor icon changes to indicate the status.

From the icon, a menu is available to open the display, start or shut down the Call Engine and configure the connection.

Opening the Call Monitor brings up the display of the currently active calls and all of the system messages.

When the Call Engine must be shut down, two options are available when "Shutdown Call Engine" from the menu; the shutdown can occur immediately or it can occur after any active calls have completed.
